A new set of announcements have been made for the Monegros Desert Festival on thye Catalunya/Aragon border on June 21, 2012. Perhaps the most exciting name is that of US hip hopsters Wu-Tang (appearing with Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, Method Man, GZA With Street Life and Dj Mathematics). Other additions are a DJ set from Italians The Bloody Beetroots, Caspa & Rod Azlan, Sub Focus, Clan Umek, Ben Sims, Frank Kvitta and Pet Trio.

Texan band The Mars Volta and eighties glamrockers Twisted Sister have been announced among the latest additions to the Azkena Rock Festival in Vitoria from June 14 to 16, 2012.
Also on the list is American folk artist M. Ward, whose Wasteland Companion is proving to be one of the albums of the year, Black Crowes founder Rich Robinson, Californian funsters Steel Panther, Germany’s Dick Brave And The Backbeats and Dr Maha’s Miracle Tonic.

Brazlian metal band Sepultura have been added to the line-up at the Rock Coast Festival in Tenerife. The band, who have been around for 27 years and released their latest album Kairos, on new label Nuclear Blast, in September of last year, will be appearing on the final day of the festival, Saturday May 26, 2012, alongside Ben Harper, Muchachito Bombo Infierno and The Monos.
Ohio based garage band The Black Keys, who finally made their commercial breakthrough in 2010 with the album Brothers and the single Tighten Up, which between them bagged the band three Grammy awards, are coming to Spain in November. At the moment the only gig announced is on November 28 at the Palacio de los Deportes, the kind of place that not so long ago they could only dream of being able to appear in.
They’re also promoting their latest album, El Camino. The name is taken from the Chevrolet El Camino car, which the band apparently thought sounded cool, not knowing at the time that the word meant ‘route/path/road’ in Spanish – although when they found out, they thought it sounded even cooler still. It seems a fair assumption that The Black Keys won’t be using the local language to address the crowd in Madrid.
The Cult have cancelled some of the concerts on their tour for non serious personal reasons and cannot perform in Mallorca alongside Axl Rose’s band as expected” said organiser El Mago Suplente today. Thos of you who were looking forward to seeing The Cult rather than the headline act do have the option of gettinga full refund on the price of the ticket, while there is also the option, say the organisers, of buying a ticket for the Barcelona show at the Razzmatazz on July 17 at a 50% discount.
But all is not bad news. Instead, Guns N’ Roses will be supported by The Darkness, who are also appearing in Spain this summer at the Azkena Rock Festival. El Mago Suplente is also promising further surprises for the Mallorca show on Sunday July 22, 2012, for which over 7,000 tickets have already been sold.
Bloody hell, they ain’t messing around with the new Ibiza 123 festival, that’s for sure. The first ever edition of the event had already raised an eyebrow or two when they announced Sting, while there no flies on any of M83, David Guetta, Lenny Kravitz or Fatboy Slim either. And now they’ve just revealed that none other than Sir Elton John is going to tinkling away at the piano for you lucky people. Elton, who wrote the soundtrack for The Lion King and apparently one or two pretty decent ditties before that as well, is currently working on album numner thirty. one, The Diving Board, which is due for release laster this year.
There have been some worried peeps this week after the news that Sonisphere at Knebworth Park in the UK has been cancelled for economic reasons. It said news for those looking forward to a show that included Queen headlining with Adam Lambert as singer at the very same venue where Freddie Mercury gave his very last concert with the band. But the good news for us in Spain is that the Madrid Sonisphere is still very much going ahead, and in fact, two new acts, Limp Bizkit and Enter Shikari, have been added to the bill. Tickets for Sonisphere Madrid are available HERE
The problem, however, is for those people who had bought tickets for the Madrid event as part of a double package that also included a ticket for Knebworth. The organisers are going to announce over the next few days what they are going to offer to do about it.
There was further news today with the day-to-day schedule being announced as well, as reads as follows:
Friday May 25, 2012 (doors open 16.45
Soundgarden, The Offspring, Limp Bizkit, Machine Head, Kyuss Lives!, Paradise Lost, Orange Goblin, Rise to Remain, Kobra and the Lotus, Skindred, Six Hour Sundown
We’ve got some cracking news for those of you who were looking forward to seeing The Stone Roses on their reunion tour at Benicassim, especially if you live in Catalunya or weren’t too sure if you wanted to fork out for a whole festival experience when all you wanted to see was Ian Brown and the boys back in Spain for the first time since Primavera Sound way, way back in 1996. Coz the Mancs have just announced that they’ll be playing not one but two nights at Razzmatazz – on both June 8 and June 9, a full month before their much anticipated appearance at the FIB. Nothing has been announced about anywhere in the rest of Spain, but we’d be very surprised is a Madrid date isn’t added to the list too.

The Friday line-up features Geordie post punk band Maxïmo Park (whose fourth studio album The National Health is due out in June), Danish indie duo The Raveonettes, Oldham based dance-punk outfit The Whip, Spanish singer-songwriter Lourdes Hernández AKA Russian Red, and the whimsical Scots who deserve far more commercial success than they’ve actually had, Belle & Sebastián. Now that’s not a bad lot to spend your Friday night listening to, eh?
The day after, what you’ve got to look forward to is The Horrors from Southend on the back of Flying, their most succesful album yet and a number 5 in the UK and who can also be seen at Benicàssim this year, Catalan band Love of Lesbian, who seem to be appearing at every single festival in Spain this year, and local singer Anari. The organisers are promising one more major international name on the Saturday night – and judging by the quality they’ve managed to drag down to Donosti so far, it’ll be interesting to see who they can come up with.
The venue is the Igueldo themepark, which this year is celebrating its centenary. Something in the region of 2,500 per day are being expected.
Canadian legend Leonard Cohen is off on world tour from August 12 promoting his twelfth studio album Leonard Cohen, Old Ideas, and it has been announced today that he’ll be giving two concerts in Spain. It’s part of his Never Ending Tour that’s being going in since 1988, and brings him back to Spain for the first time since he was at the Poble Espanyol in Barcelona and Azkena Rock, Vitoria, in June 2010.
Also announced for the FIB today were Jessie J of Price Tag, Nobody’s Perfect, Who’s Laughing Now, Who You Are and Domino fame, cult singer-songwriter Robyn Hitchcock, electronica’s Sébastien Devaud aka Agoria, English Electro producer and DJ Orlando Higginbottom AKA Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs and Irish underground power duo Arvene & Misk
The entire Flying Pickets tour of Spain has been cancelled. A statement released by the promoter goes, in reasonable enough English, that “It is with great regret, we inform you that, due to the economic situation that we are crossing in Spain in these moments, and also because of the low demand in the tickets sale, we are in the obligation TO CANCEL the NATIONAL TOUR of “The Flying Pickets” foreseen for this March. Likewise, we inform that the amount of the tickets will be able to recover in the same points of sales where they were acquired. We apologize sincerly for the inconveniences.”

The Bad Manners gig at the Caracol in Madrid has been moved forward by one day to Wednesday March 28, 2012.
The reason is that, as you will probably know, there’s a general strike on the Thursday. Makes sense.
Electronica festival Creamfields Andalusia, this year to be held for the first time at the site of the Jerez de la Frontera motor circuit, has announced Chemical Bothers, Orbital and Diplo as its latest big name incorporations.
Also added today to the bill that already included Tiësto, Four Tet & Caribou, Steve Aoki, DJ Hell, Fangoria and Miss Kittin are Beyond, Africa Hitech, Carl Craig, Caspa Crookers, Diplo, Flying Lotus, James Holden, John Talabot, Knife Party, Luke Abbott, Magda Modeselektor, Modestep, Nathan Detroit, Nathan Fake, Óscar Mulero, Wally López and Yusek
After the reasonable success of the first ever edition of the Dcode Festival in Madrid in 2012, which included appearances by Kasabian, My Chemical Romance, The Hives, Crystal Castle, Sum 41, Foster The People, Band Of Horses, Eels, The Ting Tings and the Vaccines, it was confirmed last September that there would be a second edition of Dcode in 2012. And what has been said since? Sweet FA. Bugger all. Zilch. Nuffink. Sod all. Rumours were circulating that it would be going ahead on September 15 and 16. Madrid based DJs The Warriors even announced, perhaps by accident, that they were appearing. Well, it was a start.
But they’ve taken the notice off their website and if there is going to be an event at all, then it’s getting a bit disconcerting that not only have no bands been announced, but not even the date. If we hear anything, we’ll let you know, but the clever money is betting on a no-show.
Costa de Fuego, the brand new ‘rock’ version of Benicàssim, to be held a fortnight after the FIB, has announced a new batch of bands for the line-up on Friday July 20 and Saturday July 21. Finnish symphonic maestros Nightwish and the doom metal band from Halifax, Paradise Lost top the list, which already features Guns N`Roses as the main headliners. Also announced today were further Scandinavians in Finland’s Amorphis, and Sweden’s In Flames and Katatonia (not to be confused with Catatonia, that’s something very different), plus Sheffield mathcore outfit Rolo Tomassi
There are also several Spanish acts, namely Valencia’s Noctem, plus Barón Rojo, Obús and Hamlet, who may not be too well known to foreign visitors, but are among the biggest names in Spanish hard rock.
Arenal Sound om Burriana has announced more additions to the line-up today, with the primary focus on DJs and electronica. Topping the list are German duo Digitalism and the veteran Felix Da Housecat.
Then there’s Belgian dance sensation Mumbai Science and something more local in the form of Barcelona’s Lasers, while all the way from Italy we’ve got Crookers and Cyberpunkers.
Also announced today were Dj Amable, Pin & Pin Djs, Kostrok, Rusty Warriors, Yall, Marc Dorian Dj, Elyella Djs, Kill The Hipsters, Go Mad! & Monster, Caradeniño Dj, Faceradio Dj, Daniel Kyo and Lynda Phoenix
London alternative outfit Placebo, with six Top 20 UK albums behind them, have been announced as new headliners at the Low Cost Festival to be held in Benidorm from Friday July 27 to Sunday July 29, 2012. Until now, the band that already appeared at Low Cost in 2010 hadn’t announced any appearances in Spain this summer, and it was merely a matter of time before thy did. They join Suede and Kasabian at among the groups that will be listed in the biggest letters on the bill, while fellow Brits, synth pop band Is Tropical, were also announced today.
American blues, folk, soul, reggae and rock singer and instrumentalist Ben Harper has been added to what was looking like a rather bleak final night at the fierst edition of Tenerife’s three-day Rock Coast Festival. The man famed for his terrific live performances is on stage on Saturday May 26, 2012 as one of the final acts of a weekend featuring, among others, Marilyn Manson, The Smashing Pumpkins, Evanescence, Iggy and the Stooges, Fatboy Slim and Orbital.
Ulster/Scottish indie pop band Two Door Cinema Club, who already have dates in Ibiza, Mallorca and Arenal Sound lined up for the summer, have been revealed as the headline act at the sevent edition of the Dia de la Musica in Madrid on June 22 and 23, 2012. The venue is the Matadero, the former slaughterhouse now turned into a cultural zone (Paseo de la Chopera 14, Metro: Legazpi (L3 and L6). This used to form part of the number of free summer solstice festivals around Europe, but all good things have to come to an end, and they are now charging as Madrid tries to produce a more indie/alternative focused festival comparable to Barcelona’s Primavera Sound. The positive thing about having to pay (and it’s comparatively cheap) is that the quality of acts is now much better – and there should be some new acts to be announced over the next few weeks-
Also named on the line-up today were the ubiqitous indie band from Catalunya, Love of Lesbian, British alternative rock band Maximo Park, American songstress and multi-instrumentalist St. Vincent and Danish indie rock duo The Raveonettes.
Completing the line-up so far are Metronomy, Christina Rosenvinge, Twin Shadow, Azealia Banks, Fanfarlo, Apparat, Julia Holter, Mikal Cronin and Pegasvs
New York indie pop band The Pains of Being Pure at Heart have been announced on a bill that already included Oldham indie-punk-pop outfit The Whip at Jack Daniel’s Music Day on April 20, 2012 in the Madrid Arena. They will joined at the mini-festival, which has been moved to the capital from Barcelona in 2011, by local acts Los Campesinos!, Sala & The Strange Sounds, Sidonie and La Habitación Roja. There will also be DJ sets by That Girl With Dark Eyes, Pin&Pon, Thug Ladies and Ville Rowland. The seven-hour festival is also offering an event-long barbecue and hopefully plenty of cheap JD to wash it all down.
Birmingham reggae superstars of the eighties, UB40, who had to cancel their two dates in Spain scheduled for early February due to an injury to singer Duncan Campbell (who is now leading the band as a replacement for his brother Ali) have announced that they will be back to make up for it. They’ll be appearing at the Razzmatazz in Barcelona on Thursday June 15, and a day later at Rockstar in Barakaldo (Bilbao), Friday June 15, 2012.
